NEWARK – The association between Dwight Gooden and the Newark Bears began very innocently. Last month, the legendary baseball icon, who was a brilliant Cy Young Award winning pitcher with the New York Mets and later rejuvenated his career by throwing a no-hitter for the New York Yankees, made an appearance at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium to sign autographs for fans and to throw out the first pitch.
