Belleville
The Belleville Public Library and Information Center offers English as a Second Language beginner and intermediate classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes are taught by qualified teachers from Belleville High School. There is a minimal fee of $5 per class. Those interested may sign up at any time. A flea market, craft and collectible show will be held on Sunday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Belleville High School, 100 Passaic Ave. Admission is free.
The Feast of St. Anthony of Padua will be clebrated Friday, June 10, from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, June 11, from 3 to 11 p.m. and Sunday, June 12, from 1 to 10 p.m. on Franklin St. in Belleville. There will be a Mass Friday at 5 p.m. and a procession on Saturday after the 5:30 p.m. Mass and on Sunday following the noon Mass. The event will include food, rides, raffles and live entertainment.

Bloomfield
The Bloomfield Public Library Children’s Department hosts a book club for students in grades 4-6 on Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. Students do not have to have read a book before they come and weekly attendance is not mandatory. For more information, call (973) 566-6200, ext. 502.
The library offers a Homework Helper program for students in grades 1-6. Students seeking help may come to the Children’s Department, 90 Broad St., on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. to sign up and to see the next available helper. For more information, call 973-566-6200, ext. 507.

East Newark
West Hudson Brave Women Fighting Breast Cancer meets on the last Friday of every month from 7 to 9 p.m. at the East Newark Senior Center, 37 President St. The group will provide an atmosphere of warmth and comfort for patients and family. Lyndhurst
The Lyndhurst Library will be hosting “The Flag Raisers of Iwo Jima” on Wednesday, May 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  This is a slide lecture, and music presentation about the six Marines (one was actually a Navy corpsman) who entered immortality on a windswept island in WWII in the most famous photograph ever taken. The Polish American Citizen’s Club of Lyndhurst, 730 New Jersey Ave., will have Memorial Day services on May 30, starting with a 9 a.m. Mass at St. Michael’s Church, followed by services at Lewandowski Park, followed by refreshments at the club. Everyone is invited.
Strawberry Fields Forever!: The New Jersey Strawberry is the name of the program to be held Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m. at the Meadowlands Environment Center, 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst. Take a tour through the history of the beloved strawberry with food historian Judith Krall Russo as she discusses the folklore and roots of the crop in N.J. A walk-in story time for children in pre-k to grade 2 is held at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Lyndhurst Library, 355 Valley Brook Ave.,  until June 17.
Storytime for age 3  is held at 10:30 a.m. and for ages 3 to 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the library. The last session will be on June 2. Registration will be open in August for the fall session of this program.
The library announces the following special programs: A puppet show will be held at 1 p.m. on June 23. The summer reading program liftoff will be held on June 28 at 1:30 p.m., featuring a special guest performing a magic show.
Registration is open for the library’s summer reading program, “One World, Many Stories,” which will be held from June 22 to Aug. 12 for children in pre-k to grade 6. Registration for this program will be open from June 15 to July 5.

North Arlington
The North Arlington Board of Health will sponsor a free skin cancer screening on Thursday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment at the North Arlington Health Department, 10 Beaver Ave.  Dermatologist Dr. Rebecca Lu will be the screening physician.  For appointment, please call the Health Department at 201-955-5695.

Nutley
Nutley Public Library’s Wednesday Afternoon Knitting Club meets weekly from 1 to 3 p.m.  Come share your love of knitting and crocheting with both beginning and experienced knitters. Please bring your own supplies.
The library will show films on the following Fridays:  June 3 – “The Social Network,” June 10 – “Dinner for Schmucks” and June 17 – “Red.” Each film starts at 2 p.m.
Monday Night Book Club will meet to discuss the “The Girl from Foreign” by Sadia Shephard on June 6 at 7 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. Newcomers are welcome.
Teen Advisory Council meetings are scheduled for June 7 and 24 at 3 p.m. This is a volunteer program for teens to get involved with their library and help out.
Hooked on Books, a book club for fifth and sixth graders, will meet Tuesday, June 7, from 7 to 8 p.m. At each meeting, the group will discuss a book, have a snack and play a game. Sign up at the children’s desk or register online through the library’s website. The book is “The Red Pyramid” by Rick Riordan.
