KEARNY –
An arrest warrant has been issued for the motorist blamed for causing a four-car accident in South Kearny last month that killed another driver, police have reported.
Kearny Police Chief John Dowie said that, based on his department’s investigations, both at the scene of the May 6 crash and afterward, the suspect, George Smith, 38, of Elmwood Park, appears to have been legally intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Additionally, Dowie said, it is believed Smith had been using a cell phone while driving.
The warrant charges the motorist with causing death by auto.
