Frank X. Lawless
Frank X. Lawless, 93, of Harrison, passed away on Friday, June 17.
Arrangements were by the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison. A funeral Mass was held in Holy Cross Church, Harrison, followed by entombment in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. For information or to send condolences, please visit mulliganfuneralhome.org.
Frank served as a fireman on the Town of Harrison Fire Department for 33 years, from 1947, retiring in 1980. He also worked part-time for RCA (Radio Corp. of America), Harrison, for 50 years as a concierge.
He was a member of the Harrison/East Newark Elks Lodge 2326 and the Al Cifelli Association. He was honored as “Irishman of the Year” by the Al Cifelli Association in 1996.
Prior to that, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Bermuda, from 1941-1945.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Terrents; his sons Michael, Martin and his wife Taryn (nee Barclay) and his son-in-law Patrick Connell; his grandchildren Stephen, Michael, Kathleen, Kelly, Jeryl, Susan, Shealyn and Shellby and his great-grandchildren Zachary and Julia. Frank is also survived by a sister Mrs. Mary Boylan; his brothers Jack and his wife Ann and Gerald and his wife Peggy; many devoted nieces and nephews; he was known to many in town as “Uncle Frank.”
Frank was predeceased by his wife Irene J. (nee Qualey); his daughter Marilyn Connell; his granddaughter Rosalie and his parents Frank and Mary Lawless.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and loved by many. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the N.J. Fireman’s Home, Boonton, N.J. c/o the funeral home in memory of Frank.
Helen Lyttle
Helen Lyttle died on June 20. She was 93.
Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, she lived in Kearny before moving to Wyckoff 15 years ago.
Before retiring, she was a dial marker for Westinghouse in Newark. She was the proud owner of Lyttle Ceramics in Kearny.
Predeceased by her husband Thomas Lyttle, she is survived by her daughter Eileen Albert and her husband Jack; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by the Wilfred Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny. A funeral Mass was held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Kearny. Interment was in Arlington Cemetery.
Bronislaw Staron
Bronislaw (Bruno) Staron died on June 20 in St. Barnabas Hospital. He was 79.
Born in Poland, he moved to Kearny 45 years ago. Bruno was a machinist for Newark Tool and Dye and was on the board of the Polish National Home in Harrison.
He is survived by his wife Anna and his daughters and their husbands Stacey Rosell and Carl and Christine Staron-Hemmens and John; his two sisters Franciszka Goracy and Wladyslawa Halas and his granddaughters Nicole and Jordyn.
Arrangements were by the Wilfred Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral Mass was held in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Harrison. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers kindly make a donation to the American Cancer Society to benefit lung research.
Joao Jose Portijo
Joao Jose Portijo, 62, passed away on June 22 at home.
Born in Idanha-A-Nova, Portugal, he lived in North Arlington before moving to Kearny 27 years ago.
He was a maintenance mechanic for X-L Plastics in Clifton. He was a member of the Portuguese Cultural Association, Kearny, and an avid soccer fan.
He is survived by his loving wife Maria; three children Hilda Loucks (Jake), Elizabeth Nelson (Logan) and Joseph Portijo; brother Antonio Portijo and two grandchildren Emma and Lillian.

Catherine (Kay) Conlin
Mrs. Catherine (Kay) Conlin died on Wednesday, June 22. She was 94 and lived in Kearny for most of her life.
The funeral Mass was offered in St. Stephen’s Church, Kearny, on Monday, June 27. The interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Kay had been employed as a lab aide at West Hudson Hospital for 26 years. Prior to that, she worked for Hudson Lamp in Kearny for 23 years.
Kay was predeceased by her husband Thomas R. and her children Catherine Connolly, Thomas R. Conlin Jr. and Robert L. Conlin and her sister Mary Agnes Sheedy. She is survived by her brothers Louis and John Bergmann, as well as 10 loving grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Helen T. Bulkowski
Helen T. Bulkowski, 90, (nee Bielinski), a lifelong resident of Harrison, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 22.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Bulkow-ski and her niece Veronica Coladarci. She is also survived by her grandniece Janet Torres and her husband Elias, her grandnephew Joseph Coladarci and his wife Drea and her great-grandnephew Christian Torres. Helen was predeceased by her husband William, her son Thomas and her sisters Ann Niedziolka and Sophie Sakala and her cousin Rev. John Paprocki.
Harold Sinski
Harold Sinski, 94, of Harrison, formerly of Dunkirk, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, June 23.

Harold worked at Pechter’s Bakery, Harrison, as a baker for 17 years, retiring 1978. Prior to that, he worked as a baker for Ward’s Baking Company, Newark, and prior to that as a baker for A&P. He was a member of the Harrison Senior Citizens.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1939 to 1940 during war-time.
Harold was a hard-working man.
He is survived by his sons Tony and his wife Vilma, Joseph and his wife Carolann, and his dog Scobby and his grandchildren Tina-Marie and Stanley. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen (nee Tracikoski), his sister-in-law Estelle Franklin, his nephew Chester Yasczemski, and his niece Christine Carpenetti.
