KEARNY –
A man who authorities said has at least 10 aliases and seven Social Security numbers and 20 prior arrests was arrested again last week after leading cops on a foot chase up Bergen Ave. and across Veterans Field, on which ground police – with the help of a civilian – pounced and captured the suspect. Who then tried to kick out the windows of a patrol car.
If this guy had only waited about 24 hours, he could have been a living exhibit in the town’s annual National Night Out Against Crime event held at that field.
According to Police Chief John Dowie, the adventure began at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, in the Modell’s lot on Passaic Ave., where Officer Neil Nelson observed a man who seemed to be casing the parked cars. He reportedly identified himself to the officer as Jose Rodriguez-Santiago and said he was on his way to visit a friend.
