During these difficult times we are hearing conversations about prices for gas, food and now, most recently, bridge and tunnel fares, going up.
Under a plan announced Aug. 5 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, tolls will be going up by $4 next month on the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, unless the governors from both states veto it.
On Aug. 5, I also received disturbing news from The Salvation Army that our kids in the Greater Kearny area are in great need for school supplies. All of us can help.
If we could each donate one item it would make a big difference in a family’s life. We all get caught up in our everyday lives, and we don’t always take the time to check on those around us that may be in need.
Please take the time and drop off one or more of the supplies listed below at the Salvation Army, 443 Chestnut St., Kearny, Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m to noon.
Here are the supplies requested by the Salvation Army: erasable pens, blue, black and red pencils, crayons, markers, thin and fat pocket folders, composition note books; 1-, 3- and 5-subject notebooks, wide-ruled notebook paper, college-ruled notebook paper, 3-ring binders, backpacks, pencil sharpeners, scissors, blue sticks, pencil cases, rulers, highlighters, white glue and pocket dictionaries.
I assure you, it will be most appreciated.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
