A Kearny man drove into trouble after entering Lyndhurst. Police said Christopher Dodd, 19, was traveling south on Orient Way when he allegedly went through a red light at Valley Brook Ave. at 10:20 p.m. Dodd was stopped by police who issued him summons charging DWI, failure to observe a traffic signal, no insurance card, cracked safety glass and possession of drug paraphernalia (a bowl). His car was impounded and he was released pending a court date.

The owner of a 2012 Kia called police at 5:09 p.m. to report that someone removed two iPods valued at $350 and $10 in change from the center console while the vehicle was parked in the 400 block of Post Ave.
Jan. 10
An 83-year-old Lyndhurst woman was scammed by a would-be repair man, police said. The episode unfolded shortly after 11 a.m. in the ShopRite parking lot on New York Ave. when the woman was approached by a man who told her he could fix an alleged problem with her car door by installing a chip for $2,800. When the woman offered him $80, police said the man took the cash and left the scene. He was described as well-dressed, white, in his 50s with black hair.

At 1:53 a.m. police responded to the 100 block of Park Ave. on the report of a residential burglary. When officers entered the apartment, police said they found suspected marijuana and a pipe typically used for smoking marijuana. When the apartment’s occupant came home, he was arrested. Police charged Michael Baumann, 24, of Lyndhurst, with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
At 2:28 a.m. police arrested Rasul Salaam, 24, of Newark, on an attempted burglary charge after he was spotted crouching down in front of The Liquor Shedon Ridge Road and then quickly walking away. Police said Salaam admitted that he was planning to break into the business.
Jan. 7
Shortly before 10 p.m. police responded to a Summit Ave. location near Rutherford Ave. on a report of a motor vehicle burglary. Police said the owner of a 2007 Acura told them someone took a wallet, personal papers, a driver’s license, social security card and an iPod priced at $300 from the vehicle’s front console. The owner told police the vehicle was locked when parked but police said they found no sign of forced entry.
