Herman Max Brinkmeyer
Herman Max Brinkmeyer, 81, of Kearny, died on March 16.
Visiting will be at the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny, on Tuesday, March 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A religious service will be held on Tuesday during the 6 to 8 p.m. visiting period. Cremation will be private.
Mr. Brinkmeyer was a chief with Public Service Electric & Gas, Irvington for 42 1/2 years, retiring 20 years ago. He served in The U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a drill instructor.
He was a member for over 60 years of the Copestone Masonic Lodge, Kearny. He is the beloved husband of Bernice Schmitz Brinkmeyer; father of Diane (James) Corbett and Laurence (Beatriz) Brinkmeyer; brother of Bernard Brinkmeyer; grandfather of Scott, Laura, Ryan, Michele and Larry and great-grandfather of five grandchildren.
Alexander Dunsmuir
Alexander Dunsmuir, 86, of Harrison, entered into eternal rest on March 12. Arrangements were by the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny. The funeral service was held in the funeral home followed by burial at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover.

Alexander was born on June 20, 1926, in Plains, Pa., to the late David and Annie Dunsmuir who immigrated to the United States from Glasgow, Scotland. He was a distinguished U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served our country during World War Two (Invasion of France), earning the American and European Theatre and Victory Medals. He was a member of the Lafayette Lodge #27 and Adorniram Lodge #80 of the Free and accepted Masons.
Alexander worked as a highly skilled jeweler for Shiman’s/ Kremitz and company for 51 years before retiring in 1997. He lived with his family in Kearny for most of his life before moving to Harrison, in 1992. He was a loving, dedicated family man who embraced his Scottish heritage and took great pride in being an American.
Alexander is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary A. Dunsmuir (nee Bannon), his three children and their spouses, Cynthia A. Dunsmuir-La Grace, Wendy M. Dunsmuir- Domac and her husband David, Douglas S. Dunsmuir and his wife Lillian, his six grandchildren Kelly A.Balk-Rodriguez, Kimberly M. Balk, Jason S. Dunsmuir, John C. La Grace II, Brittany L. Dunsmuir and Alexander B. Domac, his two great-grandchildren Farrah Annabelle and Riley Austin and his brother Robert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and John Dunsmuir and two sisters, infant Lily and Theresa Peill.
He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and friends.
Eddy Fonseca
Eddy Fonseca, 61, of Kearny, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 16.
The funeral will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison, on Wednesday, March 20, at 10:45 am. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Viewing hours will be Tuesday, March 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he lived most of his life in Kearny. He was a driver for Matthews International, Kearny, for the past 13 years. Eddy was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Kearny. In his free time, he coached Pony League Baseball in Kearny for many years.
Eddy is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Matilde Molina Fonseca, loving children Enrique and Erika Fonseca-Antao; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Jennifer, cherished grandchildren, Kassandra, Isabel, Kayden and Gabriel. He is also survived by his caring mother, Maria Esteves Fonseca, a brother, two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Julia M. Horvath
Mrs. Julia M. Horvath, of Kearny, died on Thursday, March 14. She was 86.
The funeral service was held in the Condon Funeral Home 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. Horvath had been a secretary for Block Drug in Jersey City for 20 years until retiring in 2000. She had volunteered as a CCD teacher in St. Stephen’s School, Kearny.
Predeceased by her husband, Stephen J. (1973) she is survived by her son, Stephen J. Horvath (Jane) and a sister, Eilene Kenney. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren, Stephen P. and Julie A. Horvath.
John ‘Smiley’ MacMillan
John ‘Smiley’ MacMillan, 87, lifelong resident of Kearny died on March 10.
Arrangements were by the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny. Interment Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover.
Mr. MacMillan was a box car engineer with Conrail in Jersey City for 41 years. He was a combat engineer in the 179th Battalion with the Army during World War II earning four service medals.
He is the brother of Ada Malassavage; beloved by Danielle and Ted Kazista and the Brochu Family. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Helen Snedden Marr
Helen Snedden Marr, 82, of Kearny, died March 11 at the Fellowship Home in Valdosta, Ga. Visiting will be on Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny.

Born in Kearny on Aug. 3, 1930 to George and Isabel Carlton, Scottish immigrants, she graduated from North Arlington High School in 1947. As a young woman she worked at Carlton Travel Agency in Kearny, which was her father’s business. She later worked as a secretary for the Kearny Fire Department, then as an administrative assistant with the State of N.J. Department of the Treasury in the Inheritance Tax Division. She lived the last eight years in Valdosta, Ga., where she was affectionately known as Grandma Helen.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Choir and Harmony Circle. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed good food, socializing, attending the Metropolitan Operas, Broadway plays and she loved traveling on cruises. She had a warm spirit that was very contagious and had a great sense of humor.
She is survived by her son Carlton Marr and his wife Jean, daughter Isabelle Brannon and her husband Ron and her son Gordon Marr; grandmother to five, Jessica Marr, Christina, Cassandra, Caroline and Charlotte Brannon. Best friend and special family friend Margaret Schoendorf.
Elizabeth Rokosny
Elizabeth Rokosny entered into eternal rest on March 15. She was 98.
Born in East Newark, she lived in North Arlington before moving to Kearny 10 years ago.
Visiting will be on Tuesday March 19 at the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 11 a.m. in Queen of Peace Church, North Arlington, followed by entombment Holy Cross Cemetery. Mrs. Rokosny is the wife of the late Charles and is survived by her son and his wife Charles T. and Maryann (O’Malley) Rokosny, three grandchildren Patricia Svec, Charles J. and John P. Rokosny and seven great grandchildren Lauren, Michael, Jennifer, Tyler, Kristian, Trevor and Madison. She was predeceased by her grandson, Joseph.
