LYNDHURST —
It has stood, quietly nestled away from traffic, since 1980 at 525 Riverside Ave. And for scores of athletes, it has been the place to be to get a brisk workout, to play a pickup game of basketball or to relax in a sauna.
And yet, for others, the sheer thought of going to a health and sports club is enough to cause nausea.
To help that, the folks over at King’s Court are opening the club’s doors each Saturday in April so members of the public — especially those in and around the Lyndhurst area — can get the King’s Court experience, free of charge, as if a full-fledged member.
The health and sports club is undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade. And the club’s marketing director, Kristin Degenhardt, says the idea of opening the doors stems from the club’s desire to let everyone know about the club and what it has to offer — especially for those who might be otherwise reluctant to join a gym.
“Those who take part won’t just get to see and use the facilities,” Degenhardt said. “They’ll be able to attend classes, meet with professional trainers, learn about healthy lifestyles and more. They can take part in boot camps and aerobics, and it’ll be a chance for them to be the best they can be.”
Among the classes, Degenhardt says, is one that is extremely popular among current clients — and it, like everything else during the open-door period, will be available to anyone who takes advantage of the Saturday special.
“Belly dancing is extremely popular,” she said. “We hope people take advantage of it.”
Additionally, a class will be offered for anyone who wants to begin lifting weights — but who might not be sure about the best route to take.
The massive club has some of the most state-of-the-art exercising equipment and facilities you’ll find anywhere in the country.
The racquetball and basketball courts and aerobics studios all have complete modern hardwood flooring, lockers are new, locker rooms all have saunas and steam rooms — and the facility now has electronic wheelchair lifts at the front and side entrances to the building, making the club completely ADA compliant.
There’s also a boxing center, pools and jacuzzis and an indoor running track — all which will be available during the open Saturdays. (And indoor turf field is also on its way).
So what if someone reading this might be hesitant to give the open Saturdays a try?
“We realize the concern,” Degenhardt said. “We just hope people know you’ve got to start somewhere — and we hope it’s with us. And with summer around the corner, there’s no better time to give it a shot.”
The club is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays in April. Anyone who wishes to give it a try just needs to come to the club at 525 Riverside Ave., Lyndhurst, in workout clothes — and sign a waiver. It’s that simple. There’s no required pre-registration or anything of that nature.
Here are the classes available at King’s Court each Saturday (including the Saturdays when the doors will be open for residents to try the club out for free).
9 a.m. — Steppin’ Out with Alissa.
10 a.m. — Body Sculpt with Alissa.
10:15 a.m. — Spin with Jackie.
11:30 a.m. — Cardio Belly Dancing with Shevon.
There will also be boot camps and health seminars thrown in randomly each Saturday run by King’s Court’s personal trainers.
