Celebrate the Dig Into Reading summer program at the Bloomfield Library with live animals from the Turtle Back Zoo on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 1:30 p.m. Reading program participants will be treated to a presentation of live animals, refreshments and a grab bag to reward them for taking part in the program. Registration for the program is required and is limited to children who have signed up for the summer reading. A second session at 2:45 p.m. will be added if necessary.

It’s all about “Birds and Witches and Bloomfield: On the 200th Anniversary of the Death of Alexander Wilson” at the Bloomfield Public Library, 90 Broad St., on Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. Hosted by Bloomfield resident Rick Wright, a widely-published writer and lecturer at birding events, this illustrated seminar will introduce you to the life and work of Alexander Wilson. Arriving from Scotland as a political and economic refugee in 1794, Wilson provided eyewitness tales from early 19th century Bloomfield that offer insights into our area’s history. The Bloomfield Library’s book club will meet in the board room on Monday, Sept. 9, from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. to discuss “Mrs. Dalloway” by Virginia Woolf. Clarissa Dalloway, a middle-aged British society lady, is planning a party. While she is ordering food and flowers, an old lover drops by unexpectedly. At the same time, in another part of London, a shell-shocked veteran faces commitment to a mental institution. The fate of a man she never met will alter Clarissa’s world view forever.

Oakeside Bloomfield Cultural Center, 240 Belleville Ave., sponsors a trip to Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, a 35-acre sculpture garden with over 270 sculptures on Sunday, Oct. 13. A bus leaves Oakeside at 9 a.m. Cost is $55 per person, which includes bus and admission, but does not include meals. Participants can take a self-guided tour or join a docent-led tour at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Lunch is available at several venues on site, or participants can pack a picnic lunch. After the sculpture garden, the bus will stop at a nearby Cracker Barrel restaurant and gift shop and will leave at about 6:30 p.m. Reservations must be paid within five days of booking to ensure a place.
