News from the Nutley Police blotter

Dec. 19

At 7:53 p.m., police went to an Edison Ave. residence on a report of a burglary. The occupant told police that after arriving home that evening, they found some kitchen cabinet doors and drawers open, the back sliding glass door broken, multiple dining room China closet doors open and the master bedroom ransacked with two empty glass change jars on the bed and most of the dresser drawers rummaged through or emptied onto the floor. Detectives are investigating.

At 1:24 p.m., headquarters got a call about criminal mischief to a vehicle at a William St. location. The owner told police they were cleaning snow and ice off the rear window when they noticed it was cracked but still intact except for a hole on the driver’s side. Police said it was unclear whether someone damaged it or whether the weather was a factor.

Dec. 17

At 9:41 p.m., while on patrol on Rutgers Place, police said they recognized someone known to have an active warrant. After that person reportedly fled, police said they took into custody Michael Suppa, 22, of Nutley, and charged him with resisting arrest by flight. He was released after posting $250 bail on that charge and was issued a new court date on the warrant from Paramus, police said.

At 1:29 p.m., police said several officers responded to an emergency call about a report that a woman had fallen into a built-in pool on Sergeant St. Upon arrival, police said that two neighbors were holding the woman by the arms and officers assisted, lifting her up and out of the pool. EMS transported her to an area hospital, police said.

At 12:47 p.m., police responded to a Bloomfield Ave. service station on a dispute between the station owner and customer over the fuel dispensed. The station owner told police the customer refused to pay for $26.88 worth of gas received, claiming they’d only requested $20. Police said they mediated the dispute, getting the patron to pay the balance in full.

At 11:24 a.m., police went to Passaic and Kingsland Aves. on a report of a man holding onto a traffic light pole because he was afraid of slipping because of hazardous road conditions. When officers arrived, police said the man was yelling, “I can’t let go or I’ll fall!” He was helped into a patrol car and taken to a local business.

Dec. 16

A field interview, conducted by officers at 11:03 p.m. at a Union Ave. location, resulted in the arrest of Terry Andrews, 29, of Nutley, for an active warrant from Little Ferry. He was released after Little Ferry P.D. was notified and after he was given a new court date.

Dec. 15

At 7:50 p.m., police responded to the rear parking lot of the John Walker Middle School on a report of criminal mischief. Police observed several key marks on the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle, extending from the rear side panel to the front side panel and bumper. The incident happened while the vehicle was parked in the lot, sometime between 6 and 7:30 p.m., police said.

At 1:42 a.m., a motor vehicle stop on Franklin Ave. resulted in the arrest of Brian Antonio, 22, of Belleville, on a DWI charge. Police said Antonio was also ticketed on these charges: refusal to submit to breath test, improper passing and speeding. He was also charged with eluding police. After given a court date, he was released, police said.
