Fair warning to all motorists driving through Harrison: Harrison PD will be cracking down on unbuckled motorists and passengers as part of the national Click It or Ticket Mobilization May 18-31.
During last year’s campaign, Harrison police conducted 14 four-hour directed patrols targeting violators of seat belt laws and, during those 56 enforcement hours, issued 70 tickets for seat belt violations, HPD logs show.
Additionally, police records revealed that one driver was cited for improper child restraint.
In Harrison and in surrounding communities, drivers should be alert to high visibility law enforcement seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols as well as publicity designed to ensure that drivers and passengers recognize the belts’ life-saving value.
Gary Poedubicky, acting director of the N.J. Division of Highway Traffic Safety, said this year’s statewide effort also focus on rear seat passengers, as well as evening enforcement.

Meanwhile, Harrison PD logged these recent incidents:
April 30
Omar Ramos, 28, of Harrison, was arrested at his Cross St. residence on a warrant charging him with stabbing a 31-year-old Newark man at a location in the 300 block of N. Fifth St. in the early morning hours on April 21.
Police had responded to that location, at 4:25 a.m., in response to a call that a man was at their door seeking medical assistance.
Upon arrival, police were met by the individual looking for help who told them that his brother had been hurt and was inside a residence across the street. As officers approached the building, they were met by the victim, who, police said, had been stabbed in the chest and slashed on both sides of his face.
Police said the victim, who was intoxicated, told them his attacker was from El Salvador but did not reveal his identity because he reportedly feared retribution. However, police said, the victim’s brother told them that the man allegedly responsible was Omar Ramos.
May 10
At 1:20 a.m., police responded to the B52 bar in the 200 block of N. Second St. on a report of a fight.
Upon arrival, police were met by a large crowd beginning to disperse who then began to run away in different directions.
At the same time, police said an officer was flagged down to respond to a report of another fight at John and William Sts.
Police who responded there found a man on the ground bleeding heavily from his head and complaining of extreme pain and three men standing near him who tried to leave as the officers approached.
However, a bystander shouted, “It was them – they jumped him!” and police then acted quickly to detain the three men while contacting EMS to treat the man on the ground.
Police said the victim, 31, from Paterson, was taken to University Hospital, Newark, for treatment of a possible left ankle fracture, a possible skull fracture and multiple lacerations to his head and face.
The three suspects, identified as Juan Delgadominaya, 27, Jose Martinez, 26, and Johan Gonzales, 28, all of Newark, were arrested on charges of aggravated assault.
