HPD: 3 beat up resident

HARRISON –

Independence Day holiday eve ended up badly for one Harrison resident who was reportedly sucker-punched on his porch.

Police said the incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. July 3 as the victim, a 20-year-old man, was sitting on his porch at Malone Place and Davis Ave.

The man told police that while he was talking on his cellular phone, he was approached by a man he described as African-American, possibly in his late 20s to early 30s, wearing dark clothes and a full beard, who asked for the time.

Immediately after giving him the information, the stranger reportedly punched the victim in the face, police said.

At that point, the victim told police, two other men he described as African-Americans, about the same age as the attacker, and also wearing dark clothes, walked up and began punching him in the face, neck and shoulder area.

Less than a minute later, without demanding money or his phone, the attackers fled, last seen heading north on Davis Ave. toward West Hudson Park, the victim told police.

EMS personnel were sent to the scene to treat a small cut to the victim’s face below his right eye and a small cut to his right hand, police said.
