Paul McCurrie

Paul McCurrie a long time Kearny resident, died May 15, 2020 in Newark.

He was 91.

Private services will take place for immediate family. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Condon Funeral Home, Kearny (condonfuneralhome.com).

Born and raised in Kearny, on Wilkinson Terrace, Paul graduated from Kearny High School in 1947.

From 1954‐1958 Paul served in the United States Navy as an Ensign aboard the USS Marias as its navigator. Upon completion of his tour, he returned to school and completed his law degree from Rutgers School of Law.

Paul married his wife Dolores (Liz) and they settled in Kearny, where Paul spent more than 50 years practicing law in the state of NJ with many of those years alongside two of his children before retiring.

Paul also served as Town Attorney for the Town of Kearny and Board Attorney for the Kearny Zoning Board and Kearny Municipal Utilities Authority.

Paul was a State Assemblyman for the state of New Jersey 1962‐1964, and a longtime member of the Democratic Party in the Town of Kearny, serving as county committeeman in his district of the FourthWard.

Paul was a past president of the Hudson County Bar Association, as well as a former trustee and spent over 20 years chairing the Hudson County Bar Foundation Scholarship Committee. He was also member and past president of the former West Hudson Bar Association.

In addition to the work in the legal arena, he was part of many organizations and civic groups, including the Friends of Erin Scholarship Committee, where he was a founding member, the Optimist Club, St. Stephen’s Parish and the Salvation Army.

Preceding him in death by a few days was his beloved wife, Dolores. Paul is survived by children Stephen McCurrie, and his wife Margaret, Susan McCurrie and Thomas McCurrie. Paul was very proud and loving of his grandson, Patrick McCurrie, who called him Poppy.

A memorial gathering will take place when it is safe to do so.

Dolores (Liz) McCurrie

Dolores (Liz) McCurrie (nee Sweet) a long-time Kearny resident died May 12, 2020 in Newark.

She was 91.

Private services are being offered for the immediate family. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Born in Kearny, Liz lived in Harrison and Bloomfield where she graduated from high school in 1947. At Bloomfield High, she met her “group of girls” who would remain lifelong friends over these many years, most recently celebrating her 70th high school reunion with them.

After secretarial school, she worked for Prudential Ins. Co. until she met and married Paul J. McCurrie, a marriage which lasted over 60 years.

She was a longtime County Committee member of the Democratic Party of the Town of Kearny. Over her lifetime she was a part of many groups in Kearny, including the Father Washington Club, the Friends of Erin, the Woman’s Club of Arlington and she was a social member of the Arlington Player’s Club.

She leaves a lifetime of Kearny friends and neighbors, and she always remembered family, never missing a year sending birthday cards to her nieces and nephews

Surviving Dolores are her beloved husband, Paul; also surviving are her children, Stephen McCurrie and his wife Margaret, Susan McCurrie and Thomas McCurrie. Liz was a proud and loving grandmother of her grandson, Patrick McCurrie who called her Grammy.

Flor deMaria Piscoya

Flor deMaria Piscoya died May 13, 2020.

Private arrangements are by the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny.

Flor is survived by her daughter Ana Maria Quispe, her grandson Angelo Quispe along with many brothers and sisters.

Marissa Esca

Marissa Esca, 25, of Rutherford, died Saturday, April 11, 2020.

Marissa was very happy and a ball of sunshine. She lit every room she walked into and made everyone smile.

She was very active in high school. She excelled in sports such as soccer, basketball, softball and recreational and competition cheerleading for the Rutherford Junior Football League. She also enjoyed playing travel CYO basketball for St. Mary’s.

Marissa studied cosmetology and graduated from Empire Beauty School in 2018. After she graduated, she worked at Flo’s Hair Salon in Lyndhurst.

Marissa grew up with two loving parents, Frank and Ann Marie, and two sisters who admired her very much, Lena and Delizia. Marissa will be dearly missed by her family, Nonno and Nonna Esca, Grandma Irene, the Iacovelli family, the Antonicelli family, the Digravina family, and many more cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

She will stay remembered in our hearts forever.

Anne Smith

Anne Smith (nee Renkart) died at home May 14, 2020.

She was 92.

Born in Newark, she moved to Kearny in 1953.

Private arrangements are by the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home in Kearny. Her body will be laid to rest with her late husband Arthur in the Mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Anne is survived by her loving daughters and their spouses Deborah Lowry (Sid) and Laurie Keim (Jim). Grandmother of Addison, Merrin, Sean (Devonne), Kevin (Pamela) and Caitlin, she is also survived by her great-grandchildren Grace and Hudson along with her Goddaughter Kathy Patla.
