Michael Shaker Sr.

Michael Shaker Sr. died May 17, 2020, at home.

He was 99.

Born in Frackville, Pennsylvania, he lived in Kearny before moving to Rutherford 12 years ago.

Private burial arrangements were through the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny. Mr. Shaker was laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Michael was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a machinist for the Hyatt Roller Bearing Division of General Motors.

Husband of the late Nancy (nee Madzi), he was the father of Andrea, Michael Jr., Robert and Evelyn Shaker. Also surviving are his grandchildren Ryan, Jenny, Mark, John, Evan and Emily along with his great-grandchildren Owen, James and Avery.

Custodia Connie Azevedo

Custodia “Connie” (Nee Esteves) Azevedo, 94, died peacefully Friday, May 15, 2020.

Connie was born Nov. 10, 1925, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, but resided in Kearny. She was a member of the Portuguese American Sports Club, Henrietta Benstead Seniors Club and of St. Stephen’s Seniors Club of Kearny.

Connie worked for Hudson Lamp Co. of Kearny for many years.

Connie was the beloved wife of 47 years of the late Antonio J. Azevedo; daughter of the late Antonio M. Esteves and Irene (Monteiro) Esteves. She was predeceased by her sisters Edwina Ferrero, Ondina Esteves and Elizabeth Mascitelli.

She is survived by her sisters Adelaide Cabelo and Auria Policastro and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Because of the restrictions recently placed on occupancy in public spaces by the State of New Jersey in the ongoing efforts to limits the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Connie’s funeral arrangements are private.

Mary S. Postel

Mary S. Postel, 87, of Kearny, died peacefully Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Anchor Care Nursing Home in Hazlet.  She was born Mary Sansalone Jan. 26, 1933, in Newark, and grew up in Kearny, where she raised her family.

Mary was active with the VFW Women’s Auxiliary for many years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was predeceased by her parents, Angelo and Juliet (Avallone) Sansalone, and her son, Mark Postel. Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Edith Postel, her cherished grandchildren, John Louis Jackson and Jacqulyn Postel and her husband, Angel, and her adored great-grandchildren Julie, Maacii, Alexiss and Jeremy.

Mary will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Becauae of the current COVID-19 health crisis, all services will be private for immediate family only. Mary will be interred in Arlington Cemetery, Kearny.
