NAPD: Man was sitting in QP’s manger with beer cans

On Jan. 1, 2022, a North Arlington police officer was flagged down and told a person was in the Nativity scene in front of Queen of Peace Church. The responding officer observed a man sitting in the manger with numerous empty beer cans and several broken statues.

As a result, he was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters and processed. He was identified as Jose Calvasalinas, 51, of Newark. After processing, he was issued summonses and released with a court date.

The total value of damages was $2,000.

On Jan. 2, North Arlington police took reports from five Park Avenue residents who reported their vehicles were burglarized overnight. All vehicles were left unlocked and numerous personal items were taken.

On Jan. 2, North Arlington police took reports from four Rutherford Place residents who reported their vehicles were burglarized overnight. All vehicles were left unlocked and numerous personal items were taken.

On Jan. 2, patrol responded to Rutherford Place on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle was taken from in front of the victim’s residence with the key fob left in the vehicle.

On Jan. 2, North Arlington police took reports from two Legion Place residents who reported their vehicles were burglarized overnight. All vehicles were left unlocked and numerous personal items were taken.

On Jan. 3, 2022, North Arlington police took a report from a Church Place resident who said his vehicle was burglarized Jan. 2.  The vehicle was left unlocked and numerous personal items were taken.
