Registration for Kearny Recreation baseball & softball ongoing

Registration is underway for Kearny Recreation baseball and softball.

Boys’ baseball

The Kearny Little League tryouts are open to children 9 through 12. Children must turn 9 before Aug. 31, 2022 or turn 13 after Aug. 31, 2022. Birth certificates and proof of Kearny residency must be submitted at registration.

In-person registration is ongoing through Friday, March 18, at the Recreation Department, 402 Kearny Ave., between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., but not between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Online registration may be done at any time at www.register.communitypass.net/townofkearny. The fee is $35.

Please also note, the Tee-Ball League is now for 5- and 6-year-olds and the Minor League is for 7- and 8-year-olds. Aug. 31, 2022 is everyone’s cutoff date, and no exceptions will be made. So, for example, if a child is currently 6 but his birthday is before Aug. 31, he is considered 7 or if their birthday is after Aug. 31, he is considered 6.

In addition, please be advised because of the large enrollment of children, cannot not be accepted for your child to be placed on a certain team or with any coach or child.  Please do not register your child if he or she cannot fulfill the commitment to attend practices and games as their absences may result in the team’s cancelation of practice or forfeiting games, which is not fair to the other players.

For more information, please call Kearny Recreation at (201) 955-7983.

Girls’ softball

Registration is underway for Kearny Recreation softball for children in kindergarten through eighth-grade. Parents may register children online, at any time, at www.register.communitypass.net/townofkearny or in person at the Recreation Department, 402 Kearny Ave., weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., through March 18. The fee is $35.

Birth certificates and proof of residency are required at registration.

The kindergarten to second-grade division is strictly an instructional program, where girls will learn the fundamentals of the game. Please do not register your child if he/she cannot fulfill the commitment to attend practices and games as their absences may result in the team forfeiting, which is not fair to the other players.

During the course of the softball program, all-star tryouts may take place. All girls selected to an all-star team will be subject to an additional fee of $35 to help cover the league costs.

Please be advised because of large enrollment, requests will not be accepted for a child to be placed on a certain team or with a certain child. All registrations after March 18, 2022 will be placed on a waiting list and children will only be placed on a team if roster spots become re available. No refunds will be given after registrations have concluded. For more information, contact the Recreation Department at (201) 955-7983.
